There are two classes covered here.
Vintage electric clocks, such as the Sectric clocks which use mains AC for the oscillator, or Eureka clocks which use an electromagnetically driven oscillating weight, can be challenging and stimulating to repair. They often have a rarity value which can make the repair justifiable.
Modern quartz clocks (ie those with an AA battery) tend to be mass produced. In these clocks the most cost-effective way to restore operation is to replace the quartz movement. This may be worth doing if the clock has strong sentimental value or is particularly unusual or aesthetically pleasing.
