Cars, Motorcycles: speedometers, clocks, rev counters

Vintage Vehicles

Early instruments

In addition to servicing car clocks (Daimler, MG, Singer etc), the early instruments were mechanical and share many common features with clocks. Speedometers and rev counters are delicate and require regular servicing too. Most car manufacturers of the 1920s and 1930s used movements which were bought in and so there are many common elements. As with most vintage parts, many require manufacture as they are no longer on the shelf. This can be done in our workshops.

Lubrication

The lubricants for these clocks need to remain effective over a wide range of temperatures. They also need to resist emulsification in environments with high humidity.

Full service

The movement is dismantled and taken to the workshop for full de-greasing and cleaning with suitable solvents. Bearing surfaces are inspected for wear, and bushes are manufactured if appropriate. Bronze, brass or steel may be used for the manufacture of worn components. New springs can be fitted if required.

Restoration

Whilst we are happy to carry out full restoration of the mechanical elements of vintage vehicle instruments, we are not able to complete the cosmetic aspect of dial restorations.
